Electrical Test and Tag (PAT Testing)

Why do we test? New Zealand Standards AS/NZS 3760 2010. As prescribed by workplace and occupational Health and Safety Regulations, the person having control of a workplace or access to that workplace i.e employer, self-employed person or main contractor, should ensure that all plug-in electrical equipment and residual current devices (RCD’s) at the workplace are safe and inspected, tested and tagged, by a competent and trained person to be in compliance with the Australian and New Zealand Standard.

  • Electric power tools

  • Computers ,monitors & printers

  • Microwave ovens, jugs & fridges

  • Office equipment—copiers , desk lamps, heaters & portable air-conditioners

  • Portable residual current devices (PRCD’s)

  • Chargers-phone , fork lift, e-bikes & laptops

  • Any plug-in devise or equipment item.


The frequency and type of test is dependent on the use, environment and portability of the equipment.

Microwave Oven Testing


Inline with legal safety requirement - AS/NZS60335.2.25


Microwave ovens should be tested as the AS/NZS3760 2010 & AS/NZS 60335.2.25 standards. For microwave ovens the standard earth leakage test and insulation test is carried out to prove the equipment is electrically safe (Test and Tag).


The second test is for radiation leakage while the oven is in operation to AS/NZS60335.2.25. This a separate test carried out with a specialised tester to prove the integrity of the radiation seal of the cooking compartment.


The most common area to fail is the door seal where the door and the cabinet meet. This can be due to misalignment of the door, failing hinges, cleanliness of the surface, age of the oven and frequency of use.

Portable Ladder Inspections

Portable ladders should be checked by the user prior to every use to establish if the ladder is in good condition and suitable for the intended use. By inspecting to the AS/NZS 1892.1 1996 standard at regular intervals allows the user to view a tag applied to the ladder stating when it was last independently checked and the recheck date.


This sets a base line as to the ladders condition and any damage or deterioration of the ladder between inspections should be apparent to the user when completing their pre use and set up procedure.

Vibration Monitoring

ISO 10816


The SKF Vibration PenTM is a multi-parameter vibration monitoring tool capable of measuring vibration (caused by rotational and structural problems like imbalance, misalignment, looseness, etc.) and capable of measuring vibration in higher frequencies (caused by rolling element bearing and gear mesh problems).


This multi-parameter monitoring is the most thorough and effective method for monitoring bearing and machinery condition. Simple data can be used to base maintenance decisions on, confirmation, and accurate trending of bearing and machinery problems. As the data is based on ISO 10816 a single data sample can be compared to the standard rather than relying on previously recorded data and looking at the trend developing.


For this testing machines are separated into four different groups.

Group 1: large machinery and electrical machines with a shaft height greater than 315mm.

Group 2: Medium-sized machines and electrical machines with a shaft height in between 160mm and 135mm

Group 3: Pumps with multivane impeller and with separate driver, power rated above 15kW.

Group 4: Pumps with multivane impeller and with integrated drive

Oil Sample Collection


We facilitate an oil sample collection service where we take oil samples using the Gough Oil Lab supplied sampling Kits. All test and analysis is carried out by the oil lab with the standard structured report being delivered to you the client.


Much like Vibrosonic testing Simple data can be used to base maintenance decisions on, confirmation, and accurate trending of machinery problems. The standard Oil Test Kit can be used for the majority of lubricating oils. This includes engine, gear, transmission, hydraulic oils. Different types of oil may receive different types of tests depending on the application.


Depending on the nature of contaminants found in the oils some tests may not be possible to run and alternative tests may be run.
